GLA:D Back Program

GLA:D Back is an evidence-based, 7-week exercise and education program designed to help individuals with persistent or recurring low back pain. Developed by leading researchers at the University of Southern Denmark, this program follows clinical guidelines and is endorsed by Alberta Health Services.

How Does it Work?
GLA:D Back helps people take control of their back pain. The program includes:
  • Assessment – A thorough evaluation of your back pain to determine if you are a candidate for the program.
  • Education – Learn about low back pain, pain management strategies, and the importance of staying active.
  • Supervised Exercise – Strengthening, stabilization, and functional exercises improve core strength, flexibility, and mobility.
  • Monitoring & Feedback – Our specially trained physiotherapist tracks your progress and adjusts exercises as needed.
Is GLA:D Back Right for Me?

This program is ideal for adults (18+) experiencing persistent or recurrent, non-specific low back pain for more than three months. By strengthening the muscles that support your lower back, improving flexibility, and teaching proper movement patterns, GLA:D Back helps you take control of your pain and prevent future episodes.

GLA:D Hip and Knee Program

This 7-week education and exercise program is designed to help people living with hip or knee osteoarthritis to reduce pain, improve function, and enhance overall quality of life. Participants attend supervised exercise sessions twice per week in-clinic.

Assessment and Screening

Each participant completes an individual assessment to identify specific needs and ensure the program is safe and appropriate. Screening helps confirm that hip or knee osteoarthritis is the primary concern and that participants will benefit from the GLA:D® program approach.

Education

Education sessions teach participants about osteoarthritis, current research, and how exercise and lifestyle changes can help manage symptoms.

Participants learn practical strategies for pain management, joint protection, and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Exercise

The exercise component focuses on strengthening, neuromuscular control, and functional movement to support joint stability and mobility.

Exercises are evidence-based and progress in intensity as participants build strength and confidence.

The goal is to improve joint function, reduce stiffness, and support long-term self-management.

Monitoring and Feedback

Certified GLA:D® clinicians monitor each participant’s technique, progress, and comfort throughout the program.

Regular check-ins and re-assessments ensure exercises remain safe and effective as participants advance.
