A New Option for Lasting Pain Relief
Arthrosamid® is a new way to reduce knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. It uses a soft, water-based gel that cushions your joint and helps it move more easily. Many patients say they can walk farther, climb stairs more easily, and enjoy daily life again.

A single Arthrosamid® injection may reduce knee pain and stiffness for a year or longer.

Best suited for people with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis who want to delay surgery.

Arthrosamid® may help patients who had limited results from previous knee injections such as cortisone or hyaluronic acid.

People often notice less pain during everyday movements and activities.
Arthrosamid is a soft gel made mostly of water. It is injected into the knee joint. The gel stays in the joint and becomes part of the joint lining, where it helps reduce friction and pain. It is approved by Health Canada and has been safely used in many countries for several years.
After a single injection, the gel spreads inside the knee joint and blends with the natural tissue. This creates a soft cushion that helps absorb pressure and reduce irritation. The effect builds slowly over a few weeks and may last a year or longer.
Arthrosamid works best for people who have mild or moderate osteoarthritis. It may help if you have tried other treatments like physiotherapy, cortisone, or hyaluronic acid injections without enough relief.
Studies show the best results in people who are under 70 years old and have a body mass index (BMI) under 25.
People with very advanced arthritis, severe deformity, or knee replacements are not good candidates.
Before the injection: You’ll meet with a specialist who will check your knee and make sure this treatment is right for you.
During the injection: The procedure takes about 15 to 30 minutes. Local freezing is used to keep you comfortable. The injection is done with ultrasound guidance to make sure it goes into the right spot.
After the injection: Mild swelling or stiffness is normal for a few days. You can usually return to light activity within 24 to 48 hours.
Clinical studies in Europe and Canada show that Arthrosamid can reduce knee pain and improve movement for up to 12 months. Some patients in long-term follow-up studies have reported relief for up to five years, although more research is needed to confirm this. So far, Arthrosamid has shown excellent safety with only mild, short-term side effects like temporary swelling or soreness.
The cost of an Arthrosamid injection is about $4,000 per knee. This treatment is not covered by Alberta Health Care or most private insurance plans, but you may be able to use a Health Spending Account to help cover the cost.
If you want to explore non-surgical options for knee pain, Arthrosamid may be right for you.
